Poor Old Sporty Busted Up His Leg

I came dangerously close to nailing a beautiful buck while driving out to the stable to tend to my horse this morning. Darn thing just walked out in front of my truck as I'm barreling down the highway. Why can't they come to me like that when I'm actually HUNTING??  Anyways, I am still working on the rest of last weekends hunting story if you can just bear with me here for a bit. I got a call last night, from the owner of the boarding stable where I keep my horse Sporty, saying that he had injured his leg and that I may need to get a vet out to have a look. I woke up early this morning and drove out to see for myself what was up. Looks like he either got kicked in the knee or got himself tangled in a fence somehow. Gross looking laceration across his knee including a beautiful flap of skin hanging down. I know it sounds awful but it's not as bad as I first thought. It's just flesh and it will heal with proper care. This has become a bit of a priority for me right now but I will try my best to stay current on here. I just want my Sporty to get all better!!

  1. Glad you didn't hit that deer! Last thing you need is to fix the truck.

I hope Sporty heals up fully! My 4 year old Quarter Horse mare broke her left front leg right at the top of the knee. Took her to an equine hospital and after x-rays they determined there was nothing they could do. I had to make the decision to have her put down right there. It was awful. Glad Sporty's injury isn't that severe.

  2. That's just awful about your mare I'm really sorry to hear that! :(
It's been one of my greatest fears since owning a horse that he would one day break his leg but he's 17 now and has been lucky. This one will be a slow heal but he's doing well. He's finally accepted that he has to live in the barn now for a while.
