Though I am no hunting expert, over the past three seasons I have gained tremendous knowledge on the topics of archery, bow hunting, tracking, tree stands, Manitoba wildlife and just hunting in general. My little sister Caitlin has heard my stories, watched me learn and is now ready to dive in herself. She calls herself my apprentice, and I guess in a way she is like my apprentice. When I got into archery about two years ago, she came to the range with me, witnessed my lessons and mistakes, learned everything I was learning by sitting and listening and now she has purchased a bow of her own. Along with her is her boyfriend Jay who jumped on the band wagon when Caitlin got her bow. He would watch us shoot and wanted in on the action. He would rent a bow from the range or try out one of ours. I had an opportunity over the summer to pick up an older PSE bow, the one that I had learned to shoot on, for a very reasonable price. This is the bow Jay now shoots. So, it seems I now have myself not one, but TWO new hunting partners!
The three of us had some very good outings this past weekend with Jay actually getting a shot off at a young doe not ten yards away! I will write more about this shortly but I wanted to take a moment to introduce the two new members of my hunting party, Caitlin and Jay, my new apprentices.
